The oldest South-Indian temple in Chembur, built in 1968 is the Ahobila Mutt Temple. It is the only temple of it kind in Mumbai, which has as its main idol Narsmiha, an avatar of Vishnu. During festivals such as Narsmiha Jayanthi, the temples idols are paraded every evening on chariots pulled by male devotees. Carnatic saxophones accompany the procession. The procession which unfolds over a period of 12 days draws crows of up to a couple of hundred.
Young kids accompany the lord on it and distribute Prasad.
Teenagers pull the procession cart on which the idol of Lord Narsmiha is mounted. Covering a 5 k.m. path can be strenuous, it shows.
